Today, I take you back to a time when Britishers ruled India. A long time ago, somewhere in the year 1828, the hero of this story is born. This story is of courage, patriotism, and a fight for freedom.
The hero of this story is our rebel Queen - Manikarnika, who was born in a time when women had no rights as a human being. This rebel queen went against her cultural norms to save her motherland from the clutches of cruel Britishers.

Manikarnika was raised by her single father. From a young age, Manikarnika excelled in archery, combat, and wrestling. At a tender age of 14, Manikarnika tied the knot with King of Jhansi - Gangadhar Rao and became the Queen of Jhansi. After her marriage, as was the custom, her name was changed to Laxmibai.
Her husband was a true patriot. It was his dying wish that his rich and prosperous kingdom— Jhansi, remains free from the forceful takeover of Britishers. He wanted freedom from the cruelties of the Britishers. Britishers would forcefully annex Jhansi if Laxmibai and her husband did not have a rightful heir. So, after losing their only child, they adopted another kid and communicated this decision to the Britishers. But after her husband’s sudden death, Britishers wanted to get Jhansi by every cunning way possible.
The pivotal point of transformation in Rani Laxmibai’s life happened after her husband’s death. As was the custom of the time, a woman’s head was shaved off. A widow would then be forced to spend the rest of her life in utter despair.

However, Rani Laxmibai stood up against these customs and instead decided to follow the path that her husband showed her. Despite being a woman, she led and arranged a troop of soldiers, consisting of both men and women, against the mighty Britishers. It was unheard of to have a troop consisting of both men and women.
Rani Lakshmibai gave hope and courage in the hearts of people to fight for their motherland—people even donated their jewelry for the cause. With her son on her back, Rani Lakshmibai bravely led her people to war. When the Britishers fought with the queen, they weren’t able to capture her.
Poets sing to this day - ”Kubh Ladhi Mardani Voh to Jhansi wali Rani thi!”
Meaning: There was no greater warrior than the Queen of Jhansi.
She died a glorious warrior’s death.
Rani Lakshmibai inspires me to stand up for what is right and be fearless. She teaches me that it doesn’t matter if you are a girl or boy and if you have the right motives and are determined, you can conquer the world.
